Once an enemy of Goku and the rest of the team, Piccolo became part of the Z team after training Gohan and becoming emotionally attached. Piccolo is also part of Kami so if Kami were to die then Piccolo would also and vice versa. Also, their death results in the disappearance of the Dragonballs so then the Namek Dragonballs would have to be used. Piccolo can fuse with any other Namek and he eventually fuses with Kami and Nail and greatly increases his power. He also has the ability to increase his size and regenerate lost body parts. The main thing about Piccolo is that he's the strongest of all the Namekians and one of the strongest Z fighters altogether.

The guardian of Earth throughout most of the series, Kami watches events unfold from his lookout high above the Earth. He doesn't fight during the series except against Garlic Jr. due to his old age and lack of fighting experience. Reason being is that if he were to die, Piccolo and the Dragonballs would disappear from the Earth. After fusing with Piccolo, Kami is replaced by Dende as guardian of the Earth.

The eldest of all the people of Namek, Guru was the creator of the original set of Dragonballs which are also the most powerful. The Namek set of Dragonballs can grant 3 wishes and the same wish can be granted more than once. However, if Guru is to die, then the Namek Dragonballs will disappear unless he passes his power to another. Guru is also the father of all the Nameks since there are no females in their race and they almost met destruction at one point (Nameks lay eggs).

One of the younger members of the race, Dende barely escapes the clutches of Dodoria with his life. Gohan couldn't stand to see Dende destroyed so he comes to the rescue and Dende later becomes a bigger part of the story. He has a strong bond with his brother Nail and eventually replaces Kami as the guardian of the Earth. Dende cannot fight but has healing powers that are just as beneficial to the Z team.

One of the stronger of the race, Nail took on Freeza but was defeated. He devotes his life to the protection of Guru but after his defeat, he fused, forever living on inside of Piccolo. If it wasn't for Nail's contribution to Piccolo's strength, he would have been destroyed by Freeza for sure.
